Which Bay Area school districts scored A+
The San Francisco Bay Area is home to nearly 50 school districts with hundreds of schools in between them. According to new data from rankings company Niche, its also home to some of the very best school districts in the state.
All of the Bay Area’s 10 best school districts received an A+ ranking from Niche, scoring high nearly across the board in metrics that measure Academics, Teachers and College Readiness. Additionally all of the schools have average graduation rates of more than 90 percent and rank in the top 30 districts in the state.
Five of the best Bay Area’s school districts are in the state’s top 10: Palo Alto Unified School District, Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District, Tamalpais Union High School District and Acalanes Union School District.
Both the East Bay and the South Bay are well represented on the list with four districts each in the region’s top 10 rankings. One district in the North Bay, the Tamalpais Union High School District, and one on the Peninsula, the San Mateo Union School District also placed in the top 10.
Niche has built up a database of more than 8,000 public school districts nationwide, with 404 in California, scored by a number of different factors including Clubs & Activities, Health & Safety, Resources & Facilities and College Readiness.
Statistics used by Niche come from the U.S. Department of Education‘s most recent data available, usually from 2014–2016, as self-reported by the school districts. They also combed through the Civil Rights Data Collection and the National Center for Education Statistics. You can read more about their methodology here.
